Wolfville: Hennigar’s Farm Market

There’s a certain kind of magic in a place that invites you to slow down, savour a treat, and enjoy a little local charm, and that’s true of this delightful Annapolis Valley Farm Market. Hennigar’s Farm Market on the outskirts of Wolfville offers exactly that. Whether you’re stopping by for a cone of ice cream on a hot day, picking up fresh produce and baked goods, or just enjoying the goats and scenery, there’s something for everyone at this family-run gem.

Let’s start with the ice cream counter. They serve Farmer’s Ice Cream in very generous scoops of classic and seasonal flavours, and I recommend you upgrade to their homemade waffle cones. It’s the perfect treat to enjoy while wandering the grounds or watching the kids play outside.

Speaking of treats, the fresh baking is hard to resist. From fruit pies and cookies to breads and cinnamon rolls, everything smells like it came straight from Grandma’s oven—and tastes just as good. They’re particularly famous for their apple cider donuts, made with their own Hennigar’s sweet apple cider (which you can buy in store too). They also make their own homemade fudge in-store fresh each week.

Inside the greenhouse, you’ll find a lush, warm escape brimming with life. It’s home not only to vibrant blooms and greenery, but also to a cheerful flock of budgies whose chirping adds a lively soundtrack to your visit. If you’re a plant lover, keep your eyes open for the rare and unusual varieties that Hennigar’s brings in each season. Follow them on Facebook to ensure you hear about it first when they post new arrivals.

Outdoors, their park is home to ducks, goats, geese, rabbits, chickens, goldfish, and turtles! Bring cash, as corn is available to buy to feed the goats, and fish food is available too.

There’s also the 2.5-kilometre-long Tannery Hollow Nature Trail, though some people may have difficulty with the trail’s uneven terrain. A small donation that goes towards trail maintenance is appreciated. If it’s been especially rainy, the trail might be closed due to washouts.

There’s a great play area for kids, that includes an old fishing boat and sandy play area with digging tools, and a Little Farmer Trike Track complete with John Deere Tricycles.

Their tiny Country Cookhouse shack is great if you want something more substantial during your spring, summer, or fall visit. Enjoy a tasty serving of fish and chips (takeout only) while enjoying scenic water views from picnic tables on the deck or around the pond.

Of course, no visit is complete without browsing the market shelves. From seasonal fruits and vegetables to local jams, sauces, cheeses, and more, Hennigar’s showcases the best of what Nova Scotia has to offer. And if you’re looking for a thoughtful token or a little something to brighten your day, check out the selection of charming gifts—rustic home décor, handmade items, and unique finds that you won’t see in big box stores.

Whether you’re a local stopping in on your weekly grocery run or a tourist discovering the Valley for the first time, Hennigar’s Farm Market is a place worth visiting—and revisiting.
