New Minas: Cumin Kitchen & Drink

If you’re seeking a culinary gem in New Minas, Cumin Kitchen & Drink is a standout destination. Opened in April 2021 by chef Jason Lynch and his wife Beatrice Stutz—also known for the acclaimed Le Caveau at Domaine de Grand Pré—Cumin brings a fresh, locally sourced dining experience to the heart of the Annapolis Valley.

Atmosphere & Philosophy

Situated in the Valley Crossroads Health & Wellness Centre building on Roy Avenue in New Minas, Cumin is a brightly lit space that really fits with the fresh and healthy food they serve. The café emphasizes sustainability and community, sourcing ingredients from local farmers, fishers, and producers. This commitment to local agriculture not only supports the community but also ensures a menu that’s fresh and seasonally inspired.

Menu Highlights

Cumin’s menu is a blend of comfort and innovation. Lots of very light and delicious ingredients, not a lot of deep-fried foods here. My wife loves their Chill Out Noodle bowl (pictured below). They offer all day breakfast and brunch on Saturdays with a special brunch menu.

For those with dietary preferences, the café offers a range of gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options, clearly marked on the menu. It’s definitely the best option for these requirements that I’ve seen in the Valley.

Cumin wrap

Don’t miss their carrot cake cookies, a Wednesday sellout special that has a very dedicated following. Additionally, their take-home offerings, such as frozen soups and baked goods, provide convenient options for enjoying a meal at home.

Coffee & Beverages

Coffee enthusiasts will appreciate Cumin’s dedication to quality brews, featuring their signature blend from Nova Coffee. Whether you’re in the mood for a cortado or a London Fog, the café’s beverage menu complements its food offerings perfectly.
